Dr. Maria Ramirez Loyola

Aspiring Career Specialist

Dr. Maria Ramirez Loyola completed her B.A. in psychology at UC Riverside and her Ph.D. in health psychology at UC Merced. Dr. Ramirez Loyola’s research focused on understanding the association between resilience factors and the health and well-being of young adults in the face of adversity. Dr. Ramirez Loyola is very passionate about helping to create more inclusive and welcoming environments for all and looks forward to leveraging her diverse lived experiences, training, and skills to help facilitate the success of at-promise students.

When she’s not working Dr. Ramirez Loyola loves reading, watching new shows/movies, and exploring how to grow different plants. She would also like to encourage students to identify things that bring them joy and remember that sometimes all it takes is a little creative thinking—and another person to listen—to help you make progress toward your goals/dreams.

Alyssa Garcia is from Fresno, CA. She did her undergrad here at UC Merced and she is so happy to be back! With her new position, she looks forward to working with all the students that are interested in learning more about Graduate school and undergraduate research opportunities. Her hope is that she will reach students who feel under presented and be their voice so that they have access to resources. She is excited to be in the space and create a safe environment for students to come in and connect with her. Her career goals are to help students improve their academics and prepare them for their future so they can be successful individuals in this world. On her free time, she loves to travel and try new things! Fun fact, she loves playing basketball.
