AB 540 In-State Tuition Wavier
AB 540 it is a law that allows students including undocumented students (with or without DACA/work permit) to qualify for in-state tuition as supposed to out-of-state tuition. As an AB 540 student you must:
1. Submit the University Of California Nonresident Tuition Exemption form (to determine AB 540 eligibility) to the Office of the Registrar. http://registrar.ucmerced.edu/sites/registrar.ucmerced.edu/files/page/documents/ab540.pdf
2. Submit the Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) that appears on your checklist within your portal, via http://my.ucmerced.edu.
Transcripts
Submit all transcripts of ALL institutions (includes high schools and community colleges) attended, AP scores, and SAT and/or ACT scores by July 1st to the UC Merced Office of Admissions.
1. Be sure to save any receipt from your high school for submitting request for your transcripts to be sent.
2. Be sure to save all receipts for requests for sending your AP scores, and SAT and/or ACT scores.
3. Your ADMISSION WILL BE RESCINDED if you fail to meet this July 1st deadline.
4. Report any non-passing grades (D’s or F’s) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, via your http://my.ucmerced.edu. Non-reported non-passing grades will result in your ADMISSION BEING RESCINDED
Health Insurance
If you have your own family health insurance, or Medi-Cal, submit the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) waiver: http://health.ucmerced.edu/waiver - By waiving your insurance you will save you $2,452.
1. Students without health insurance, who have DACA/work permit have the option to apply for Medi-cal. If you choose to do this, you should register in their home county for Medi-Cal. Prior to the fall semester, contact your case-worker to change your residency to Merced County.
2. To apply for Medi-cal with full scope as a DACA recipient you can use this resource to guide throughout he process.
3. Submit waiver and proof of insurance before August 1st via your student portal.

Programs to support you!
1. For first year students, be sure to check out and apply for programs like Fiat Lux Scholars (deadline has passed and only open spots are for off-campus incoming first years; to be considered program please e-mail Manpreet Dola, Fiat Lux Scholars Program Coordinator at mdola@ucmerced.edu) and Success Mentor Program. Both programs will assist you in being successful at UC Merced.
5. For transfer students, be sure to check out and apply for DARTS program. Application will be open soon.
On-campus housing/meal plans
When signing up for housing, consider requesting a triple or quad room and choose the least expense meal plan.
a. A double with the median meal plan = $15,933
b. A triple with the least expensive meal plan = $14,100
c. A quad with the least expensive meal plan = $13,000
