Below you will find an overview and objectives of the UndocuAlly Training:

Overview of UndocuAlly Training

With the recent presidential campaign and election in the United States, and with growing anti-immigrant rhetoric and behavior. Threats to heighten immigration enforcement, uncertainties of the continuation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and increase in the number of deportations have left undocumented students and their families increasingly anxious and fearful for their immediate safety, as well as about what the future holds. Now, more than ever, undocumented students need support from educators, counselors, and administrators.

Based on personal experience and research and collaboration with local, state, and national advocacy groups, this UndocuAlly training will offer you and other colleagues practical recommendations to become allies who support and help to create safe spaces for undocumented students at UC Merced.

  • Understand state and federal education and immigration policies that impact college access and employment for undocumented students in California and on our campus
  • Create a safe space for undocumented students on our campus
  • Learn how to assist undocumented students with securing the funds they need to support their college education
  • Understand how to provide legal support and other "know your rights" information to undocumented students
  • Learn how to share with other colleagues on campus to support undocumented students
  • Critique information and tools to develop a network of undocumented student allies on campus
  • Learn how to apply this information to your role on campus and as an ally
